Protection for officers range from the ability to sue for false complaints
to mental health support groups for officers who experience trauma.
-
Georgia gave police the right to sue civilians for damages if civilians file a false complaint or infringe on the officers' rights.
-
Iowa passed a law that justifies deadly force or a chokehold when the basis of a warrant is found to be invalid.
-
Montana removed penalties for on-duty officers who choose not to help public health officers when asked.
-
Texas created peer support groups to give officers internal mental health resources and shield officers' speech in the groups from being used against them in disciplinary matters - even if officers reveal misconduct or wrongdoing.
